I hope you all had a good week. Can you believe it’s only 4 weeks until St. Patrick’s Day? It seems like Christmas was only yesterday! Before we know it the big day will be upon us so this is the time to think about your all-important outfit. Of course it’s all about the green so I’ll be giving my top picks from The Irish Store.
So Why Green?
The color first associated with St.Patrick’s Day was actually blue but that changed in the 17th century. The green of the Irish flag became the color of patriotism and as Irish nationalism grew, so did the wearing of the green. There were also the associations with the Emerald Isle, so called because of the color of our rich green landscape as well as the green of Ireland’s favorite symbol of good fortune, the Shamrock.
There’s also the danger of being pinched by a leprechaun! The tale goes that wearing green made you invisible to these mischievous creatures and kept you safe from their pinching. The tradition of pinching people who are not wearing green on St. Patrick’s Day originated in the U.S. It still continues this day!
Lulus Top St.Patrick’s Day Looks
1.Traditional Aran Sweater
Nothing says ” Irish” quite like a classic Aran sweater. This one is purely traditional in its style with lucky honeycomb stitch in the main body. Ever since it was catapulted to worldwide fame in the 1950s and 60s by movies stars like Grace Kelly and Steve Mc Queen, this humble Irish fisherman’s sweater has become a must-have wardrobe staple. Last year it took it’s rightful place in a major fashion exhibition at MoMA in New York appearing alongside iconic garments such as the Little Black Dress and Levi jeans.
Ours is available in no less than 8 gorgeous colors but obviously, I’ve chosen to showcase this beautiful soft green shade for the day that’s in it. The wool is super soft merino and best of all, it comes in versions for both men and women.
2. Ladies Fitted Ireland Shirt

6. The Ardara Cable Sweater
The Ardara Aran sweater takes its name from one of Donegal’s most beautiful beaches on the Wild Atlantic Way. The cable stitch is the signature stitch here. This stitch was believed to be a representation of the Aran Islander fisherman’s ropes. The bold oversized cable in the main body is beautifully trimmed with finer cable stitch patterns at the sides and neck. The design is gently flared at the bottom, creating a flattering line at the hips. It comes in 3 gorgeous colors and the soft meadow green is the perfect color for St. Patrick’s Day.
