St.Patrick’s Day With Lulu in Sligo.

Greetings from Sligo! Well, the day has finally arrived! A very Happy St.Patrick’s Day to you all! I realize that as I write the day may only be beginning for some of you, some of you may be a mid parade and some may be tucked up in bed after an eventful day! Wherever you are this St.Patrick’s Day, I just wanted to touch base with you all from Sligo and give you a quick report on the day so far. It’s 4 o clock here and  I’ve had to make a quick dash back to the house as I couldn’t find a quiet corner of the pub to write my blog – it is St.Patrick’s Day after all!

I rose early, put on my favorite green zipper Aran cardigan and me and my dog Lucy hit Streedagh Beach for a brisk walk. Our only company was the sound of the mighty Atlantic and the dependable Irish mist rolling over the amazing Benbulben. Remember a couple of weeks ago I was talking about planning the perfect St.Patrick’s Day? Well, the only thing you can’t plan for in Ireland is the weather! That mist coming over the mountain certainly didn’t bode well……

Lucy never tires of playing fetch!

 After our morning walk, we’d certainly worked up an appetite so it was home for a full Irish breakfast to set us up for the day ahead. Then I put on a pot of Mammy’s recipe Irish Stew so dinner is sorted for later – you know how it is with us Irish mammies, we have to make sure everyone is well fed!

Anyway, that mist coming over the mountains didn’t go away……… and the heavens opened!!!

It most definitely rained on our parade but it certainly didn’t dampen our spirits. No matter what the weather, I just love the atmosphere on St.Patrick’s Day.  It’s just a wonderful coming together of all ages to celebrate our national holiday and no matter where you’re from, everyone is Irish for the day!

So this is (a slightly wet!) me raising a pint of the black stuff before I nipped home to say hi to all my The Irish Store buddies so Slainte everyone! I’d better get back to the gang. I’m sure there’ll be a song or two and maybe a spot of ceilidh dancing before the night is out! I ‘ll sign off now so wherever you are I hope you have-or are having-or have had!-the best St.Patrick’s Day!
