Hi everyone, I hope I find you all well. So this week we end our tour of Irish beaches with a trip to the province of Connaught. We’re taking in the coastal counties of Galway, Mayo and Sligo so the choices are endless. Here’s five of my favorites.
Irish Beaches. 5 to Visit in Connaught
1. Dog’s Bay/Gurteen Beaches, County Galway
We begin in County Galway in the heart of Connemara near Roundstone village. Here we get two amazing beaches for the price of one! Both Dog’s Bay Beach and Gurteen Beach lie back to back, separated by protected dunes. Often named among the best beaches in Ireland, their perfect horseshoe shapes, white sands and crystal clear waters are just irresistible.
2. Mulranny Beach, Co Mayo
Up into County Mayo now and to Mulranny beach which can found just south west of the town of the same name. This stunning strand offers spectacular views of Clew Bay and Clare Island. It is backed by a rare saltwater marsh featuring many shorebirds and typical plant species.
3. Keel Beach, County Mayo
We stay in County Mayo for a trip to Achill Island and the idyllic Keel Beach. Ireland’s largest island can be reached by a bridge which links it to the mainland at Westport and it’s worth the trip for a visit to this beach alone. More golden sands and Atlantic waves await and the views from the beach of Mweelaun Cliffs and Slievemore are spectacular.
4. Mullaghmore Beach, County Sligo
We head up to my favorite county now and for that reason, we’ll be visiting two of my favorite beach haunts in this pert of the world. The first is Mullaghmore Beach, a 3 kilometer stretch of golden strand which is a great spot for swimming and boasts magnificent dunes. You can also take a boat trip from the harbor here to another of my favorite Sligo spots, Inishmurray Island.
5. Streedagh Beach, County Sligo
My final stop has to be the magnificent Streedagh Beach. I know I’ve said all there is to say about this beautiful beach but it bears repeating! The seemingly endless strand, the crashing Atlantic waves and the stunning views Benbulben-this all combines to make this, in my book, one of the best Irish beaches.
Thanks so much for joining me on the journey.
Take care of yourselves and each other,
Slán go fóill!

We love the Irish sweaters. But the sizes are cut smaller for us bigger Americans. Can you make larger sizes? Your 2xl will not fit us.
I am also looking forward to visiting all thr beaches that you outlined
Hi Patrick,
We’re currently looking into getting bigger sizes with our suppliers so watch this space.
