Hi everyone. I hope I find you all well. As many of you are well aware, Ireland has its fair share of beautiful beaches and now we’re in midsummer, I think it’s the perfect time to take a trip to see some of our finest Irish beaches, province by province. We begin in Ulster. Here’s 5 of my faves.
Irish Beaches. 5 to visit in Ulster
1. Kinnagoe Bay, County Donegal
We start our journey in Ireland’s most northerly county-the incomparable Donegal. Kinnagoe bay and its awesome strand is situated on the Inishowen Peninsula, Ireland’s largest peninsula which ends at Malin Head, the most northerly point of the country. There is a wild and rugged beauty in this very special part of Ireland. The beach boasts golden sands and crystal clear waters and viewed from above, the sight is quite breathtaking.
2. Murlough Strand, County Down
So now we head over to the east of the province to County Down. Murlough beach boasts a fairy tale setting at the foot of the majestic Mourne Mountains. The beach features an ancient dune system which is now a National Nature Reserve and a sanctuary for birds and hundreds of species of butterflies.
3. Portstewart Strand, County Londonderry
We now head to Portstewart Strand in Derry. This awesome 2 mile strand stretches as far as the eye can see and a walk here is always invigorating and the perfetct way to blow away those cobwebs. It is backed by impressive dunes which are home to swathes of wildflowers at this time of year. The impressive Portstewart Golf Club is also set among the dunes with awesome views to behold from every angle.
4. Downhill Strand, County Londonderry
Just a twenty minute drive up the road takes you to the equally stunning Downhill Strand. This is the start of a 7 mile beach stretch and nestles beneath Mussenden Temple. Keep an eye out for the trains speeding out of the cliff side tunnel. It’s quite an unforgettable sight.
5. Silver Strand, County Donegal
We end our journey at one of my all time favorite beaches in the country. This stunning secluded cove is surrounded by sea cliffs forming a perfect horseshoe with golden sands and crystal clear waters to die for!
Thanks so much for joining me on my tour of Irish beaches. Do join me next time for a trip to my favorite beaches in Leinster!
Until then,
Take care of yourselves and each other,
Slán go fóill!
Lulu.
