10 Must-Haves for your Irish Vacation

Written by Lulu O'Sullivan

Hi everyone. So May is well and truly upon us and for any of you planning an Irish vacation this year you may be wondering what to pack. Well almost everything! As you are probably aware we get a lot of weather here in Ireland so you need to be prepared for every eventuality!

1. Raincoat

Whatever you forget to pack do not under any circumstances forget your raincoat! That famous rain that keeps this little island so beautifully green is plentiful and unpredictable! May we recommend The Gosford Waterproof Jacket. Super stylish and guaranteed to protect you from the elements!

A woman in a light brown waterproof jacket stands on a grassy landscape with mountains and a body of water in the background. She wears a white turtleneck and blue jeans, looking directly at the camera against a setting that suggests outdoor exploration.

2. Umbrella

I promise I'll stop talking about the rain soon but an umbrella is another essential item for your Irish vacation. Not recommended while viewing the Cliffs of Moher but very handy if you get caught in a shower while doing some city wandering.

3. A Healthy Appetite

So strictly no diets on vacation! Especially when vacationing in Ireland! A bowl of Irish stew and the perfect pint of Guinness is a winning combination to keep your strength up while seeing all the sights.

4. An Aran Sweater

A woman stands on a grassy slope, arms outstretched, as if celebrating the moment. She wears a white Aran sweater and a flowing black skirt. In the background, rolling hills and a serene lake are visible under a partly cloudy sky.

No trip to Ireland would be complete without your very own keep warm layer and our biggest export is the perfect way to stay cozy and stylish. We have a stunning collection of Aran Sweaters including our 5 star favorite Women's Crew Neck Irish Wool Classic Sweater.

A woman stands on a sandy beach by the water, smiling and looking at the camera. She wears a white cable-knit Aran sweater and a green scarf tied around her neck. In the background, there is a dock with boats moored and hills in the distance under a bright sky.

5. Sunscreen

Yes, we mean it! Even if you are visiting in November there’s no telling what the charming Irish winds of change will bring. And if you are of Irish heritage, your pale skin will thank you for the extra protection.

6. Euros

Back in the 1990s, Ireland had its own currency – the punt. Today we use the Euro like the rest of our European Union neighbors. Be sure to stock up before you fly to be ready for every eventuality.

7. Wellies (a.k.a. rainboots)

So we're back to the rain again! With Ireland’s stunning (and splashy) coastal scenery, these may be very useful. In your wellies, you’ll fear no Irish sand or mud. Extra useful if you plan to attend an Irish festival, where mud is a regular feature on the line-up.

8. Dancing Shoes!

An essential part of any Irish vacation! Chances are you'll end up in a pub with some toe tapping traditional Irish music and an Irish ceilidh is always the best craic! If you've got any kind of a singing voice bring that along too!

9. Irish Gifts

Two Belleek china mugs labeled "Himself" and "Herself" are positioned on a light wooden surface. They are decorated with green vines. In the background, there is a cluster of white flowering branches that create a soft, natural frame around the mugs.As the land of a thousand welcomes, the Irish are famous for their generosity. So maybe you’ll want to bring a little something with you as a thank you for your relatives’ amazing hospitality. And you know you will want to bring a souvenir or two of your vacation back home. Why not order your Irish gifts at The Irish Store, leaving you with extra luggage space for the rest of your vacation essentials.

10. A camera

Ok so these days most of us will be using our camera phone but for the more serious photographer, you will need to make sure your camera is well and truly packed. There's a lot of spectacular scenery to photograph. I promise you will not be disappointed! You'll certainly want show off your pictures of your Irish vacation on your return!
Happy travels all! See you next week.
Slán go fóill!
