Hi everyone. My tour of Irish beaches continues this week with a trip to some of the finest in Munster. On this trip we take in the counties of Waterford, Cork, Kerry and Clare so there’s an embarrassment of riches in this province when it comes to Irish beaches.
Irish Beaches. 5 to Visit in Munster
1. Dunmore East, County Waterford

We begin in County Waterford and the beautiful seaside town of Dunmore East. The beach here is small but perfectly formed. A slipway takes you down into this secluded cove. The nearby cliff walk is a real treat and offers stunning views of the Saltee Islands and Waterford Harbor.
2. Inchydoney Beach, County Cork

Often hailed as one of the best beaches in Ireland, Inchydoney Beach is near the village of Clonakilty, about an hours drive from Cork City. Golden sands and beautifully clear waters combined with a backdrop of imposing sand dunes make this a must see on any visit to this part of the Emerald Isle.
3. Barleycove Beach, County Cork

We stay in County Cork and head further west to the Mizen peninsula and yet another must see Irish beach. The stunning dunes here were caused by an earthquake in Lisbon in 1755. The tsunami caused by the earthquake reached the shores of Ireland in the form of 15 foot high waves which displaced the sand and formed the dunes. Barleycove has designated as a Special Area of Conservation by the European Union, making it a haven for wildlife.
4. Derrynane Beach, County Kerry

Time to stop off in the Kingdom of Kerry and a visit to yet another of Ireland’s most stunning beaches. It is situated near the village of Caherdaniel and the golden sands and clear Atlantic waters are just breathtaking. The Derrynane Mass Path walk takes in this beautiful beach and so much more. The Mass Path walk is a must for anyone who enjoys a ramble. It refers to the path taken by Catholics in penal times to attend secret mass at Derrynane Mass Rock. Expect stunning views of the beach and coastline below as well as trails through lush woodlands.
5. Fanore Beach, County Clare

We end our journey in County Clare at the edge of the Burren which gives this beach the most dramatic of backdrops. More rolling dunes, golden sands and mighty Atlantic waves.
Do join me next week for a tour of my favorite beaches in Connaught,
Until then,
Take care of yourselves and each other,
