Irish Journeys. A Tour of Mythical Ireland.
Written by Lulu O'Sullivan

Hi everyone. I hope I find you all well. With the long bright days of summer upon us, there's no better time to hit the road and explore the magic of this incredible island.
As we all know, Ireland is a country steeped in mythical tales, legends and folklore — and many of our most beloved landmarks have an extraordinary story attached.
So let's take a whistle stop tour of mythical Ireland. First stop — Giant's Causeway in County Antrim!
1. Giant's Causeway & Fionn mac Cumhaill
© Ireland's Content PoolThe jewel in the crown of Antrim's Causeway Coastal Route consists of 40,000 basalt columns, the result of an ancient volcanic eruption. The legend behind this geographical phenomenon is much more colorful — and the clue is in the name. T
he tale features Ireland's best known mythical warrior, Fionn mac Cumhaill (Finn McCool). The story goes that the causeway is the remains of a path built by Finn when he was challenged to go into combat with his Scottish rival giant, Benandonner.
On a clear summer's day, the columns glisten against the Atlantic and the Scottish coast is visible on the horizon — truly breathtaking.

Exploring the Causeway calls for a layer you can throw on as the coastal breeze picks up. Our classic Men's Heritage Plaid Irish Flat Cap — woven by the renowned Mucros Weavers in County Kerry — is the perfect finishing touch for a coastal walk along the Antrim coast.
2. Rock of Cashel & St. Patrick

Next on the mythical Ireland trail is the truly mystical Rock of Cashel. Also known as St. Patrick's Rock (Carraig Phádraig), legend has it that the rock landed here when St. Patrick banished Satan from a cave at Devil's Bit mountain.
The story goes that the devil took a bite out of the mountain and spat the rock to its current location! The Rock of Cashel is also where St Patrick is said to have converted the King of Munster — it was the seat of the high kings of Munster for centuries until the Norman invasion.
Summer evenings here, with the golden light falling across the ancient stone, are simply magical.

Strolling the grounds of Cashel on a warm summer evening deserves a look as timeless as the surroundings. We love the Women's Classic Irish Tweed Driving Cap — a heritage piece woven in Ireland that pairs beautifully with any summer outfit.
3. Allihies & The Children of Lir

The story of the Children of Lir is one of the most beloved from the Irish Mythological Cycle. Lir was part of the Tuatha de Danaan clan and married Eve, the sister of his rival Bodb Dearg, the king of the Tuatha De Danann.
They had four children — one girl, Fionnuala, and three sons: Aed and twins Fiachra and Conn. When their mother died, Lir married her sister Aoife. Aoife, who had magical powers, was fiercely jealous of the love Lir had for his children.
She changed them into swans, where they were forced to wander for 900 years — 300 years in Lough Derravaragh in Westmeath, 300 years in the Sea of Moyle, and their final 300 years on the Bill, Cow and Calf rocks on the Beara Peninsula near Allihies in West Cork. When they heard the bells from a nearby church, the spell was broken.
They were buried under boulders just outside the village. In summer, the wild Atlantic views from Allihies are simply stunning.

The rugged beauty of the Beara Peninsula calls for something equally striking. Our iconic Women's Traditional Irish Wool Country Walking Cape in rich moss green is crafted from 100% wool and features an attached scarf that transforms into a cozy hood — perfect for those breezy Atlantic evenings, even in summer.
4. Glenbeigh Beach & Oisín & Niamh
