Hi everyone. I hope I find you all well this week as my Meet the Makers roadtrip arrives in County Kerry. After a wonderful visit to Connemara Marble quarry in County Galway, it was time to make the journey to KIllarney to meet John at Mucros Weavers. On the way I stopped off for the night in the beautiful village of Adare in County Limerick. Hailed as one of Ireland’s most picturesque villages, it boasts The Desmond Castle, the ruins of a Franciscan Friary, the Trinitarian Abbey and of course those gorgeous thatched cottages.
Mucros Weavers
Time to meet John of Mucros weavers at Muckross House in the beautiful surroundings of Killarney National Park in Kerry. The house and gardens are exquisite and include the Sunken Garden, the Rock Garden and my personal favourite, the Stream Garden. I met John on a beautiful sunny day to find out more about the age old Irish weaving tradition at Mucros and see the some of their 200 year old Hattersly looms in action.

My next pick is one of my absolute favorites from Mucros Weavers. The alpaca wool is soft and luxurious to wear and it makes the perfect gift for just about anyone. I’ve certainly gifted them to quite a few people and they’ve been a huge hit! It comes in two gorgeous designs but my favorite has to be the classic black and white herringbone.
5. Fiona Tweed Bag
My final pick is this beautiful woven purse in three beautiful wool mixes. It features a twist clasp closing and 2 zipped inner compartments. It also comes with an adjustable strap so it can be used as a shoulder bag or clutch.
