Celtic Jewelry! Here's your definitive guide to
Ireland's most treasured jewelry designs.
Celtic jewelry is jewelry inspired by Ireland's ancient art, mythology, and symbolism — knotwork, crosses, hearts, and nature motifs that have been reworked in silver and gold for generations. Today it stands as one of the most recognizable expressions of Irish heritage, with authentic designs available in The Irish Store's Celtic Jewelry collection.
The designs trace back centuries — from the swirling stone carvings of Ireland's earliest inhabitants, to the illuminated manuscripts of monks such as the Book of Kells, to the goldsmiths of coastal villages like Claddagh in County Galway. Each symbol carries its own story of faith, love, or protection, a heritage reflected across the collections at The Irish Store.
Each design carries its own meaning, and The Irish Store has a piece for every beloved symbol!

The Claddagh is the most recognized symbol in Irish jewelry, with roots reaching back around 300 years to the fishing village of Claddagh in County Galway. According to local legend, a Galway man named Richard Joyce was captured and enslaved in Algiers, where he learned goldsmithing from his captor. On his eventual release, he returned home and crafted a ring for the sweetheart who had waited for him — the design we know today, with its hands for friendship, crown for loyalty, and heart for love.
The Trinity Knot, or Triquetra, dates back to the 5th century and appears throughout early Irish manuscripts, most famously the Book of Kells. Its three interwoven loops have long stood for anything threefold, making it an enduring Irish symbol of eternity.
Several legends surround the Celtic Cross, the best known involving St. Patrick. On finding a pagan standing stone marked with a circle representing the moon goddess, he is said to have blessed it with a Latin cross — combining the two into the first Celtic Cross as a bridge between pagan and Christian Ireland.
Traditional pieces were worked in bronze, silver, and gold by hand. At The Irish Store, designs are crafted from sterling silver and 10–14 karat gold, many finished with Connemara marble — a rare green stone found only on Ireland's west coast and formed some 900 million years ago, meaning no two pieces are ever quite the same.
Store pieces separately to avoid scratching. Keep sterling silver dry and away from perfume or lotion. Clean gently with a soft cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals and remove jewelry before swimming or showering.
